Kalank movie review

Story of the movie:

Set in 1946 in Husnabad, Balraj Chaudhry (Sanjay Dutt) lives in his mansion with son Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur) and daughter-in-law Sathya (Sonakshi Sinha). Sathya is living on borrowed time. She has a year before cancer takes her away. Before she leaves, she wants to broker a deal between Dev and Roop (Alia Bhatt) so that her husband is not alone after her death. Roop agrees because she has two ‘unmarried’ sisters and her father will not be able to ‘take care’ of them alone. But, Roop also has some demands to stay in Dev’s castle after getting married to him and being his second wife – she wants to learn singing from a brothel owner Bahar Begum (Madhuri Dixit). During a visit to Bahaar Begum’s chamber (where Roop is honing her music skills) Roop meets Zafar, the local blacksmith and after several meetings they develop strong feelings for each other. One day Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur) came to know about Roop’s extra-marital affair. What happened next, for this you have to watch the film.

Star Performance:

Varun Dhawan as Zafar has delivered a brilliant performance in the film. Alia Bhatt has delivered a stand-out performance. Aditya Roy Kapur also done a good job. While, others like Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha has done justice to their roles.

Music Direction:

The film’s music is good. Songs likeFirst Class and Ghar More Pardesiya are already hit among the audience.

Direction:

The film’s direction is good. The scenes are beautifully picturised. The biggest highlight of the film is the star-studded cast. The climax of the film is powerful. However, the editing of the film could be even better.
